Hi Yves. A question widget for Likert questions, with the ability to choose the number of levels, and the choice to score or not score. Default Likert are always survey, never graded and always have 5 levels.

bullet point list with various bullets (square and that) with auto timing for the bullet text would be amazingly superb.

following are few of the ideas for widgets –

1- captivate has a certificate widget which can be printed but what happens when a user does not have printer. For this give a widget which will take the snapshot of certificate and send the image to a a flickr account. Some stamp mark could be added to the image so that users cannot take snapshot manually and upload to flickr. This widget can be quite generic and can solve many of the problems.

2 – captivate does not have ability to insert html pages. Give a web object kind of functionality to insert a website into captivate slide. Flex has a concept of showing html pages inside iframe – it can be used.

3 – extending idea 2 forwards – allow a pdf object to be inserted in captivate file. same concept of iframes can be used.

  4. rajeev kumar Says:

    another one –
slideshare.net is a great place to share presentations. A widgets which should insert a link to slideshare and play it inside captivate as it does for youtube videos.

    Retake Quiz – Extra controlls

I would like to control which slide # the retake quiz button jumps to.

  7. Mark Fletcher Says:

    1. A Question Slide Widget that does not include any numbering scheme.

    2. A Question Slide enabled the learner to submit their answer choice simply by clicking on one of the possible answers. Although you can create this type of functionality using the Advanced Answer option a widget that just submitted the answer and displayed the next question would be useful.

    3. On retaking a quiz it would be great if you could create a widget that would only display the questions the learner got wrong.

    4. Purely from a cosmetic point out view, it would be useful to have a Question Slide widget that enabled you to specify a custom symbol, such as radio button that matched the corporate color scheme. In addition painting the possible answers when the learner rollovers over them would be nice.

    5. A Word bank question. Here the learner would drag one correct answer out of several choices and drop to an answer placeholder.

    6. A Sequence Drop Down question. Using a series of drop down lists with the same items, the learner has to place the items in the correct order.

    7. Numeric question type. With this question type the learner has to type the correct numeric answer into a text box.

    8. How many survey question type. Type a numeric respone into a text box. This would be useful for gathering demographic information, response times etc.

  8. Lieve Weymeis Says:

Seeing that Mark already posted several nice types, bit difficult. A lot can be achieved with the Drag&Drop widget of Tristan.
    1. A combi of multiple choice with sequence: user has first to select the appropriate choices, other choices should disappear, and then he should be able to drag them in sequence. Example: which tasks are necessary (from a multiple choice list) to achieve something, and then put them in sequence.
    2. Easy way for Matching Question to use images in one column or in both
    3. Possibility to have two correct answers with Sequence question
    5. Advanced feedback as exists now for Multiple Choice with one correct answer, for some other types: MC with mulitple answers, Sequence, Matching, Hotspot
    6. Hotspot question could use some extra layout/formatting possibilities
    7. Probably impossible for the moment: answer should be kind of simple drawing (scientific) p.e. line resulting from a mathematic formula

    Mark, Lieve,

Thanks a lot for answering the call! Very good suggestions. Will definitely work on some of these ideas.

I’d like to see a way for users of my captivate projects to take notes as they move through the project.

To be practical this would have to let them modify the notes as they go through the project. (so no storing them as a variable that then can’t be modified unless completely written over).

Ideally you would be able to cut and paste objects into the notes also.

Would really appreciate this sort of widget! :-)

    Thanks

  11. Whyves Says:

    HI James,

Thanks for the comment. I have thought about something similar. However, how do you intend the comments to live past the end of the presentation? Do you foresee the comments to be stored somewhere so the next time the user runs the presentation, he can read/modify his past comments? That would require the comments to be stored on a server. Anyway, another interesting idea that confirms some of my own ideas.

    Thanks again!

    Yves

  12. James Anderson Says:

    Hi Yves,

I was thinking that there might be a file (perhaps even a simple txt file) that the user could open each time they needed it on their local machine. This way they would have access to their notes outside of the project.

I’m imagining something akin to notepad opening in the project and being saved by the users. There might be an icon on each page for them to open their notes on relevant slides.

This model would also allow them to add to, print etc outside of the project.

    Reckon that can be done?

    Thanks for thinking about it.

    James

  13. Whyves Says:

    James,

With Flash Player 10, the possibility of saving/reading a file on disk was provided. So, in theory, this is all possible. Will keep that in mind for a future widget. This should not be extremely difficult to put together.

    Thanks!

    Yves

  14. James Anderson Says:

    Hi Yves,

I may have found another way forward. I noticed that Jim Leichliter’s has produced a widget that allows you to put a variable in the default text box of a caption. I’ve used this to create a variable that works the way I need it to. By placing my variable $$notes$$ in the default text of a caption the last version of the notes is added to text box and the user can add to them. Cool!

My only problem now is that I can’t do much with the text box. No formatting, text wrapping etc.

I know there is a text area widget that ships with Captivate, but when I tried it out with Jim’s widget it didn’t accept the variable as default text.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    james

  15. Whyves Says:

    Hi James,

The Text Area Widget variable is just an output. It’s not used as an input. Jim’s widget uses the variable both ways so it works well. However, I’m puzzled with you approach. I thought that you wanted the user notes to persists over sessions. Such as the user writes notes and closes the presentation. The next day he opens the course and sees his notes as he wrote them last time. Isn’t what you’re trying to achieve? If so, I’m not sure that your way would have worked as I don’t think Captivate persists user variables.

    Yves

  16. drm Says:

I would like a widget that will allow me to take URL variables and assign them to Captivate user variables. Jim Leichliter has a widget that will let you do the opposite (Variables in Button URL).

  17. Garry Says:

I would love the ability to add an image to the Interactive Label Widget.

  18. Stephen Says:

For a language teaching course, I would like to be able to add an audio file to a bubble containing the person’s speech, so that if the learner would like to listen to the audio and not just read the text, he would just click on the text bubble, and the audio file would play. If he wanted to hear it more than once, he would just have to click again and again on the bubble. The slide would not advance until the “NEXT” button were clicked. Currently, the audio file plays as soon as the text object becomes visible on the screen.

    Thanks
    Stephen

A scrolling text box that can handle html text. I really need this.

  21. Garry Says:

I’d like to see a widget that let’s me create image buttons that use User Variables as the button label.

  22. Jan Says:

I agree with Garry`s post in May that it would be great to be able to add images to the Interactive Label Widget!

  23. Michael David Weis Says:

Hey Lieve! Love the widget work with the re-tryable multiple choice questions. Any chance I could beg, borrow or flat out pay you for those captivate files so I don’t have to do all that re-formatting myself? I am working for a teachers-teaching-teachers organization and have limited time and resources, but I would try to get you some money.

For other developers: I’m simply wishing for a question that can be re-taken.

Do they still have to be published for flash nine or is that just becasue the posts are old?

    Thx!!

  24. Lieve Weymeis Says:

Michael, bit puzzled, because I always publish for the latest Flash player, so for the moment the posts have movies for Flash 10, and I doubt that even the ‘old’ ones (blog is only about one year old) were not published for Flash 9.
Bit strange to try to reach me using Yves’blog. Would have expected a comment on my blog, so that I know about which example you are talking because there are several posts. You can also reach me using the Adobe forums, by private message.

I love the widgets, and have purchased a few so far… please make them all scalable.

An interactive combo box with partial score wil be a nice widget.

  29. Loraine Chant Says:

A Glossary Widget would be absolutely fantastic. Have been looking for sometime for a glossary widget to use within my projects, but haven’t found anything. Imagining an icon placed on the slide which, when clicked, opens a new window with interactive A-Z Glossary.

  30. Whyves Says:

    Hi Loraine,

Thanks for the idea. I thought about this too a while ago but never got around to do it.

    Maybe in the future.

Captivate gives you a few button widgets…right? BUT it does not have an option to have the button point to “Execute Advance Actions.”

Think about what you could with a button that pointed to user defined events in captivate. I would use it for my own conditional jump to slide, action, or open or hide ToC and CC….and 10 other uses at the top of my head.

The main problem not having this button is to copy and paste a button on every slide because Captivate does not allow you to set a button, click box or slidelet for the duration of the project.

You would make a killing if you made this button (which could be set for duration of project) that pointed to Execute Advance Action.

Please- make my wish come true…

    Thank you…
